County Florists ready to help you “Say It With Flowers”

Hallock where she also serves as florist. Jennifer (Jenn) Durkee serves as florist at Nordisk Hemslöjd in Karlstad.Dawn Austin began employment at Montague’s Flower Shop in Crookston in 1976, worked at Bud’s Flowers in Chicago for a couple of years, and then returned to Montague’s as manager. When she and her husband moved to Hallock, she worked part-time at the flower shop in Hallock (under owners Julie Younggren and Sue Hilman) and part-time at the Pembina Gift Shop. In 2005, she bought the shop in Hallock and it became Austin Floral. What is Dawn’s favorite flower? “I love them all,” she says and then admits some partiality to stock, which is a fragrant, attractive, and yet, little known flower. She purchases her flowers from “many different places,” but primarily from Len Busch Roses in Plymouth, Minn. She also secures flowers from M.J. Floral in Grand Forks, J.W. Perry’s in Fargo, and North American Floral in Sioux Falls, S.D..What does Dawn enjoy about her work as a florist? She likes Valentine’s Day! “I enjoy the holiday because it’s more people coming in and more people working. We have a good time.” She says she’s had the same employees for a number of years which helps to make the day go smoothly. She notes that Valentine’s Day has sort of become a two-day holiday – “The 13th is a pretty big day, too,” she says. She feels the customers help make Valentine’s Day an enjoyable day, “People are so understanding…Men are very patient waiting. They enjoy visiting with each other.”“Valentine’s Day is a rose holiday,” Dawn says, “The number one selling item for Valentine’s Day will be roses.” Dawn will definitely be prepared – she has eight hundred roses on order. She explains that Len Busch grows some of their own roses, but many of their roses will be coming from Ecuador.Dawn and her staff wi...

Why Refusing To Design Gay Wedding Flowers Was Barronelle Stutzman's Act Of Love

In Shakespeare’s famous play, the feuding Montagues and Capulets destroyed both the love and the lives of Romeo and Juliet. Now that play has come to life. When the government weighs in on love and friendships, lovers and friends are crushed under it. We see it in the case of Barronelle and Rob, and we can predict the prevention of countless other friendships in its wake. Unless the Washington Supreme Court overturns the lower court, a 72-year-old woman will not only lose her business of nearly 40 years, she will also lose her house and retirement savings. That’s because, in an unprecedented move, the ACLU and state attorney general have sued not only her business, but her person for attorney fees estimated at more than a million dollars. One could hardly blame Barronelle if she were angry and embittered. But she’s not. Blogger Monica Bonewitz-Boyer privately talked to Barronelle, and here’s how she describes the conversation: “I then asked her how I could pray. Do you know what she said? She said, ‘Pray for Rob. He needs Jesus.’ She didn’t ask for me to pray for a win in court. She didn’t ask me to pray that she wouldn’t lose her home and a href="http://s.igmhb.com/click?v=VVM6MTIwOTExOjg5NjE6YnVzaW5lc3M6YjI5Mjg5NzViNzkzN2JhYjVkYzg0YmFiOGNlMTE0MDM6ei0yNDQ5LTg4MzUxNTMzOm1vbmljYWJveWVyLmNvbTozNDUxODQ6ZDg4ZDUyYjRhOTgzNmM3OWRkZmVlODIyYjI4NmJjYmM6ZjE3OTJjNDBhZWE5NDE0MmEzYzY0YTY2MWFiOTMzMjY6MTpkYXRhX3NzLDEwNDB4MTkyMDtkYXRhX3JjLDI7ZGF0YV9mYixubzs6MzA3Mzg5MTo6OjAuMDE&subid=g-88351533-b03276dcc2fb43f4b58573a8f0a1c140-&data_ss=1040x1920&data_rc=2&data_fb=no&data_tagname=A&data_ct=image_only&am... Two Candidates for Powhatan WJCC Schools Seat Earn Vocal Support

Center. Speakers recalled Dalton’s success improving two preschool programs, mentoring Girl Scouts and engaging as a parent. Resident Rena Graham-Montague said Dalton is altruistic and would not seek appointment to the School Board as a political move. “She should be selected because she’s a fresh face that knows the current concerns of students and parents and would work tirelessly to improve those concerns and help the School Board,” Graham-Montague said. “She wants purely to serve the community and improve the quality of life in the community.” Dalton briefly addressed the school board, noting she is a product of WJCC Schools and would aspire to “move the school system forward in excellence,” if selected. Candidates Patti DeBlass, the owner of Schmidt’s Flowers & Accessories; Mary Minor, a former WJCC School Board Chairwoman; David Dafashy, a physician at William & Mary; and Frank Abbott, a human dimension lead at JANUS Research Group, approached the dais to explain why they would like to be appointed, but no residents came forward to offer support for their appointments. The seventh candidate, Brian Stokes, an adjunct professor at Thomas Nelson Community College and Christopher Newport University, neither spoke nor was spoken for during the hearing. Geri Farrell of the WJCC Education Association did not endorse a specific candidate but encouraged the Board to select someone with “strong connections to our schools” and experience working with budgets. Board Chairman Jim Kelly said the candidates will be interviewed Feb. 12 and the elected members of the board will select an interim member by the end of the month. The interim member will serve until a November special election is held to formally elect a Powhatan representative. The elected Powhatan representative will serve until Dec. 31, 2017, the date former School Board member Joe Fuentes’ term would have expired, unless he or she is re-elected. Fuentes vacated his seat Jan. 15 after announcing his resignation in December.   Powhatan, Powhatan School Board Appointment, Williamsburg-James City County Schools, WJCC School Board Comments ...
