Dec 30, 201510 ways to help monarchs thrive
Media)
Go native
Learn all about native wildflowers and which are best for attracting monarchs by visiting the Wild Ones WILD Center, located in Neenah. You will see beautiful plantings of native wildflowers designed it to attract monarchs and other pollinators throughout the season.
Purchase native wildflowers through the organization's annual native plant sale, or by visiting Stone Silo Prairie Gardens, De Pere, and Graziano Gardens, near Waupaca, where you'll find all the best native wildflowers, including milkweeds.
Inspire our youth
Spread your love for monarchs to children and grandchildren to ensure a committed future. Take frequent walks at area nature centers and point out monarch sightings to keep children excited. Better yet, teach them to grow their own butterfly gardens right at home.
Monarch Waystations
Provide an area of native wildflowers and nectar sources throughout the summer season at home and have your backyard habitat certified as a Monarch Waystation.
By registering your backyard habitat with the Monarch Watch organization, you'll receive a special sign to post on your property certifying it an official Monarch Waystation.
For more information, visit www.monarchwatch.org.
Tag, you're it!
Participate in a monarch tagging program this summer to learn hands-on how monarchs are tracked. Several local nature centers provide tracking and tagging programs each summer, such as Mosquito Hill Nature Center, Woodland Dunes Nature Center and the Butterfly Gardens of Wisconsin.
