Big Brothers Big Sisters nets award
The Big Brothers Big Sisters National Leadership Council recently recognized Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sheboygan County with a national Quality Award for team leadership and quality community programming for the second straight year.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sheboygan County is the only chapter in Wisconsin to have been recognized with the award for two consecutive years.
Only 41 Big Brothers and Big Sisters agencies across the country received the Quality Award for 2015. The award requires a number of quality thresholds to be met including a minimum number of children served per year, achieving a pre-determined 12-month retention rate and meeting minimum criteria for frequency and completeness of supervisory contacts with mentor-mentee matches.
Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs children with screened volunteer mentors and monitors and supports the one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course. The agency has been matching adult mentors to area children since 1965 in Sheboygan County. In the past year, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sheboygan County served 433 children. Over the past two years Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sheboygan County increased the number of matches by 14 percent and maintained a match retention rate of 92 percent for the traditional “Community-based” matches and 79.4 percent for the “school-based” program Lunch Buddies.
Volunteers are needed to provide youth with support and encouragement through caring and consistent friendships. Those interested in volunteering should call 920-458-0111 or visit www.bbbssc.org.
